Eastchurch

Aviation was born at Eastchurch. In 1901, Lord Brabazon founded the aero club for ballooning there. Five years later he was joined by the Short brothers. The aerodrome was used in both World Wars. There's a memorial to all this opposite the peaceful 14th century church. It was at nearby Shurland hall - of which only a piece of wall remains- that Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn honeymooned in 1532.
